Botox for treatment of TMD
The Temporomandibular Joint is located on the sides of the head, just in front of the ears. It is the joint that connects the mandible (jawbone) and the temporal bone (skull). Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD) is a condition that affects the muscle, tissue, or bone in and around the area of the temporomandibular joint.
Some symptoms of TMD include:
- Complications with opening and closing your mouth
- Tenderness and/or pain in the area of ears, jaw joint, temple, or face
- Neck pain and headaches
- Clenching or grinding of the teeth
Botox treatment for TMD works by the dentist making Botox injections into the muscles of the jaw, temple, and other sites depending on your symptoms. Botox when injected in small doses blocks the nerve signals that cause muscle contractions, leading to muscle relaxation in jaw.
Soft Tissue Grafting
Gum recession is a common dental issue, affecting thousands of Canadians every year. Gum recession is the process in which the margin of the gum tissue that surrounds the teeth wears away, exposing more of the tooth or tooth root. When gum recession occurs, "pockets," or gaps, form between the teeth and gum line, making it easy for disease-causing bacteria to build up. If left untreated, the supporting tissue and bone structures of the teeth can be severely damaged, and may ultimately result in tooth loss.
Soft tissue grafting, also known as a gum graft, is a dental procedure that involves taking healthy gum tissue from one area of your mouth and grafting it to another to cover exposed tooth roots or thicken existing gum tissue, improving comfort, aesthetics, and oral health.
Benefits of Gum Grafting:
Increased Comfort: Covering exposed roots can reduce sensitivity and discomfort.
Improved Aesthetics: Gum grafting can restore a more natural-looking gum line and improve the appearance of your smile.
Reduced Risk of Gum Disease: Thicker gum tissue is more resistant to infection and inflammation.
Protection of Tooth Roots: Covering exposed roots can protect them from any further decay and damage
